Conscientious Capitalism: Labor Trafficking and Supply Chains Mitigating Risk, October 29, 2018

Mayor Sylvester Turner’s office worked after Hurricane Harvey to diligently mitigate against the trafficking patterns that arose after Hurricane Katrina destroyed parts of Louisiana. One of the most disturbing acts involved trafficking Indian nationals to help rebuild oil and gas assets in violation of visa and trafficking laws (Signal case). The Mayor’s Office developed post-disaster risk mitigation presentations to educate our corporate and consular citizens. This event was an extension of those presentations. Corporate and consular attendees learned about the strategies and tools to guard against similar human rights violations. The panel is moderated by Minal Patel Davis, Special Advisor to the Mayor on Human Trafficking.
